Engineering Building I
Small Scale, Big Impact
Engineering Building I (EB I) brings together students and faculty studying the molecules, biological systems and materials behind advances in energy, health and manufacturing.
EB I houses the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Materials science students explore how materials behave and how they can be improved, while chemical and biomolecular engineering students tackle challenges in areas such as energy, manufacturing, sustainability and health.
The departments’ research spans from batteries, electronics and biomedical materials, to renewable energy, polymer recovery and carbon capture. Teaching and research laboratories support both undergraduate and graduate study, giving students opportunities to develop practical skills and contribute to faculty-led projects. The work connects an understanding of how materials behave with new possibilities for how they can be made and used.
An Engineering Landmark
EB I was one of the first engineering buildings constructed on Centennial Campus.
Room to Connect
The building design includes a 4,800-square-foot lobby and atrium.
Presentation-Focused Design
EB I features large amphitheater-style classrooms with capacity for over 100 students.
